Before baking anything, there’s a list of essential tools you will need to be best. These tools are literal instruments to perfecting baking.
Baking is an art — a delicious art! It takes patience and precision. But before completing your next project, a baker must have certain equipment to make their precision perfect, and their patience poignant. Let’s start big and work our way down to small, but significant tools always needed in your toolbox.
Appliances
Best Universal Mixer
As a baker, this Artisan tilt-head mixer makes the best baking tool. Kitchenaid is a well-known, and loved brand, but not all mixers are alike–even from them. Its tilt-head capacity makes it ideal for removing your mixer accessories, without anything smudging your hands. The stainless steel bowl, is much better than a glass, and for most baking needs, a 3.5 Qt. bowl is not big enough. It truly was made for artisans. Most standard recipes can be made with it.
Best Large Capacity Commercial Mixer
Unless you’re running a store or shop, most large capacity mixers are of know use. There’s literally no space. We chose the next best option, KitchenAid KSM8990NP 8-Quart Commercial Countertop Mixer. Big enough for thanksgiving an Christmas baking, but small enough to fit most standard kitchen countertops, plus it’s as powerful as can be. It’s looks, feel, and equipment present a commercial mixer, that can be in any bake shop.
Oh. You’re Fancy Mixer!
Waring is lesser known than Kitchenaid, but has the industry reputation, along with Hobart as a strong, heavy-duty industrial mixer. The Waring Commercial WSM10L 10 Qt. Mixer, like the KitchenAid KSM8990NP 8-Quart Commercial Countertop Mixer can be situated on your countertop. It’s almost double the price as the 8Qt, but we’re being fancy, plus again, it is about strength, to last forever and ever. A 7 Qt. Mixer version exist, but overall, we find the Kitchenaid 8 Qt. to be more economical for the size.
Baking Pans and Sheets
Baking pan and sheets are the feet for baking. They are necessary and required to accomplish anything of not, so having the perfect baking pan is a need. Perfect is not always subjective. There may be better, in which case we all win, but this is the best we’ve experimented with thus far. There is a price to pay for perfection. As you may or may not be aware of, Silver stainless steel pans bake more evenly than dark pans, although some we found bake fine. While we want to showcase the best, we also want to showcase the best economical choices in bakeware. Sometimes we want to start off small.
Cake Pans
Unlike Appliances, we’re going to go by brands. Some brands are more consistent than others. Some brands are best at certain things.
Magic Line
Overall, Magic Line is one of the best baking brands out for cake pans. Very little to critique. They are one of the best, and our go-to for square pans. They do not know what a rounded square pan is, and we love it. Many other brand pans leak, not Magic Line!
Square Pans
What can we say, but perfection! An having 3″ tall pans helps with large batters! Parrish Magic Line 8 x 8 x 3 Square Pan is a need!
Fat Daddios
Fat Daddios is another popular brand, that’s more widely distributed. While we don’t love their rounded edge square pans, unlike Magic Line, we do love their round pans, and their updated cheesecake springform pans!
Springform Pans (For Cheesecakes)
We love than no aluminum foil is needed!

Get Ready For Creating Tiered Cakes (I Hear Wedding Bells Ringing!)
You want to be a professional, well multiple tiers will need to be made. Plus, they’re 3″ high!
Baking Sheets
Gauge determines density of the baking sheet. US and French brands are best known for their quality, but can also be quite heavy. Still we chose some of the better brands for professional style baking:
Half Sheet (A Need!)
USA Pan Bakeware is pure quality! You can feel and lift it to determine off the bat. Plus it’s made in the USA! We’ve had this for a while, and it’s pure strength!
Quarter Sheet
Nordic Ware is another USA brand, with absolute great quality. They have a line of amazing pans we’ll also discuss below.
Best Economical Pan (Also Dark Grey!)
While again, we recommend silver stainless steel baking pans and sheets, we’ve tried the Wilton baking sheet pan, and while its not as strong as the previous two, it still bakes a decently. Note: Clean properly, or it will rust.
Cupcake Pans
You needs cupcake pans. We will not debate this! Any pan you get, make sure you purchase the correct liner. Beginners usually get to big, small or tall for their pan.
Shockingly Great Dark Muffin Pan
We won’t lie, this pan is quite amazing for a dark pan. It’s light, but has shown real quality, at a decent price. Cleans well, ad bakes both oil and butter based cupcakes evenly.
